Lost

When I was 10 years old, I went to Zion National Park with my mom, sister and grandma. We had lots of fun when we first got there. We went swimming, horseback ridding, and hiking. On one of our last hiking trips we got lost. I was both scared and upset at first, but thinking back on it I kind of laugh.

We got up early one morning, and packed our lunches for our hike. It was only supposed to be a 1 to 2 hour hike that would take a couple of hours to finish. The hike started out real fun in the beginning. The scenery was beautiful and their were lots of interesting sites. Everyone was real excited to take in all of what nature has to offer. Going up the mountain made us real hungry so we decided to stop for a comfortable lunch, but that wasn’t going to happen.

As we sat down for lunch, we realized my little sister forgot her lunch and her bottle of water. I was really upset at her because I had to share my lunch with her, and I was really hungry. I was able to hold on to my apple which made very happy. My mom told me it was no big deal because we were almost finished with our hike and when we got back to our cabin we could all have a snack. When lunch was over, we continued our hike and five minutes later my grandma has a feeling we are going in the wrong direction.

All of a sudden, we were lost. It felt like we just kept climbing up the mountain, and we never seemed to be going down. At one point, it got really scary because we were on a three foot ledge with a fifty foot drop. We walked for an hour and my grandma thought we were going in the wrong direction because we were going up hill so we turned around. Fifteen minutes later she changed her mind so turned back around. There was a lot of arguing between my mom and grandma. All at once we ran out of water. It didn’t help that my little sister forgot her water. It was a good thing I saved my apple because we had to use is so we would not get dehydrated.

After six hours, we made it to the bottom of the mountain. Needless to say we were all exhausted and thirsty. We went back to our cabin and had a feast. This was defiantly a day to remember. From now on, when I go on a hike, I always take a map and plenty of water.
