Sign Language

Another Language...

Helping hands

Sign language is not only benifcial to hearing impaired students but to the whole class.  Vicki Bruno taught me that sign language can be used for productive classroom management.  Simple signs like sit and restroom can give the teacher a good opportunity to teach the students how to not be disruptive to the class.  I learned a lot of really neat signs from Vicki that I will probably never forget so I already have an advantage over those who don't know anything about sign language.  I also learned that there are different forms of sign language like there are different dialects of a language.  Language is learned the same no matter what language it is.  So it is possible to learn it.  When I was in elementary school, one of my teachers taught me sign language.  To this day I still remember those lessons.  It is important to give your students experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
